Lake Natoma, CA - Results for March 3rd Tri Regatta (Cal Lights, Cal Maritime, Sac State)
This past weekend Cal Lightweights and Cal Maritime raced Sac State at Lake Natoma. We were very excited for this event because it was our first race of the season and the first race ever for many of the novice athletes.

There were many events throughout the day. A total of 5 races occurred: Varsity 8+, Novice 4+, Varsity 4+, Novice 8+, Pair 2-. Each race was 2000 meters.

The first race of the day was the Varsity 8. The race started with all 3 boats very close to one another. After 300 meters, Sac State began to walk away and they never looked backed. Sac State finished first with a time 6:43, Cal Lightweights received second place (7:05), and Cal Maritime third (7:53).

The second race of the day was the Novice 4+. The three boats entered for this event were 2 from Sac State and 1 from Cal Maritime. This was a very close race between the Sac State A boat and Cal Maritime. With 500 meters to go Sac State A made a move to get ahead of Cal Maritime and they pushed a boat length ahead of Cal Maritime. However, with 300meters to go Cal Maritime made a big push and had a strong sprint to beat Sac State A. The final results were Cal Maritime taking first (7:55), Sac State A in second (7:58), and Sac State B in third (8:48).

In the third race it was the Varsity 4+ with rowers who just completed the Varsity 8. This race was very straightforward. Cal Lights got out to an early lead and kept it the whole way. Despite pushes from Sac State, Cal Lights were able to hold onto first place with a time of 7:24, Sac State 7:28, and Cal Maritime 7:55.

In the Novice 8+ race, there were 4 boats entered. 2 were from Cal Maritime, 1 from Sac State, and 1 from Cal Lightweights. Sac State finished in first (7:10), Cal Lights in second (7:16), Maritime A in third (7:45), and Maritime B in fourth (8:15).
Unfortunately, the other schools pulled their boats out of the Pair race, therefore leaving 2 Sac State pairs. The varsity pair of Hopkins/Boman taking first to the novice pair with Albretsen/Sorensen.

Overall, Sac State finished first in 3 out of the 5 races and getting a close second for the other two. Not bad for the first race of the season.

The next race will be at Sonoma State on March 24 (Varsity Only).
